Artist Statement
I paint in the non-objective style as it frees me to be immediate, direct and in the moment. Abstraction allows me to transcend pictoral representations and communicate to the viewer that which is intangible and illusive such as concepts and sensations. Multiple layers developed over time lend the paintings their complexity, subtlety and depth. The painting process becomes physical as layers are textured, deconstructed and renewed. Under layers are brought to the surface as a metaphor for connecting the past with the present. The resultant painting becomes whole and the layers integrated.
